Sunday Style: Country Lace

One Sunday in May, here is what I wore to church. And I loved every aspect of this outfit! The lace dress, denim jacket, cowgirl boots, layered necklace and beaded bracelets. The only thing missing was a hat. I used to have a cowboy style beach hat, but must have purged it from my closet, because it could not be found. I'd only worn the hat once, and with the ever-present blow-the-hat-off-your-head Kansas wind, it required holding onto with one hand to keep it lodged. Which is a royal pain in the kiester. So...no more cowboy style hat for me. But even hatless, this outfit is a favorite!

 Outfit details:  lace dress ~ thrifted; denim jacket ~ thrifted;
boots ~ Target; necklace ~ JCP (I think); bracelets ~ thrifted;
earrings ~ had for ages.

If I could, I would wear pieces like these every single day. It truly defines my style. It's doubtful I'll ever tire of this outfit. I'm pretty sure I'll cry if the day comes that any of these items wears out or no longer fits.

Not very practical for wearing inside the chicken pen, however. The lace might snag on the chicken wire, and white is a dangerous color around muck and poo. The boots may be cowgirl boots, but I don't wear them for mucking purposes. A designated pair of "poop shoes" sits outside the back door for that job.

It's perfectly fine to get down and pet the cat, though.

Sunday Inspirations 6.19.16

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give
you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come
and pray to me, and I will listen to you."
Jeremiah 29:11-12

My Father God knows everything about my life; he's had it all planned since before I was born. His plans for me are good, even if they don't seem to be at the time. God works in every twist and hill and bump in the path my life takes, to lead me to my ultimate destination...and that is very, very GOOD.

Style Imitating Art: The Roses of Heliogabalus

Salazar of 14 Shades of Grey chose The Roses of Heliogabalus painting by Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema for this week's Style Imitating Art challenge:

Here is the outfit I put together inspired by his depiction of death by rose petals:

Outfit details:  top ~ JC Penney's; cardigan ~ thrifted;
skirt ~ JC Penney's; earrings ~ old; bracelet ~ thrifted.

My participation in SIA challenges is sporadic at best; it only happens if I am struck with an idea for an outfit instantly upon seeing the artwork. It would probably be good for me to stretch my imagination a bit and go for it each time the challenge is issued. But the perfectionist in me says not to join in unless I can come up with a very relevant outfit and a proper backdrop. The soft colors and flowy vibe of this skirt, top, and cardi reflect the painting well. And is this not the perfect backdrop for The Roses of Heliogabalus?

This wild pink rose bush grows along the pasture fence near our house. My good friend and neighbor T agreed to take photos last Friday, early in the morning after Some Postman left for work. Since the pink roses were very nearly on the way to death themselves, we knew we had to hurry up and get pictures. My outfit wasn't worn solely for SIA, either; I did wear it to church the following Sunday morning, with the strappy white sandals I had originally intended to wear when we took the photos. However, because I had to clamber through the ditch and avoid who-knows-what-kind-of-critters in the tall grass, cowboy boots were far more practical. And honestly, I really preferred wearing the boots over the sandals. I don't know what it is, but there is something about wearing cowboy boots that makes me feel like I can do anything. Like climb into and out of a steep ditch while wearing a long lace skirt:

Not very graceful, admittedly! And I completely forgot to take pictures later on Sunday to show the sandals, so you'll have to use your imagination.

Thank you so much, T, for taking photos for me; it was fun! Especially the silly poses:

Sunday Inspirations 6.12.16

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee, opening to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness, fill us with the light of day!
~ 1st verse of the Hymn of Joy by Henry J. van Dike
This is one of my favorite hymns; it's the one tune my son learned to play on the piano as a young lad and could probably still play even now, if he had opportunity. Brightly colored lilies always bring the Hymn of Joy to my mind and I can't help but sing it as I tend to my little flower bed.

An Everyday Outfit That Makes Me Happy

Wearing stripes and floral print together is my favorite way to mix patterns. Pairing a dress with sneaks sparks joy in my heart, too. This outfit has a long list of "pros" going for it: comfortable, cool, stripes, flowers, happy colors...and I couldn't resist posing in front of the poppies in my parents' yard despite it being full-on hot sun.

Now that you're thoroughly blinded, here's an easier-on-the-eyes pic:

bracelet ~ Walmart.

Sunday Inspiration 6.5.16

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~ John 8:12
 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. ~ I John 1:7
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:16
This is my prayer...that people would be able to see the light of Jesus through me. I am not the light - He is the light - but as I follow Him, He cleans me up and gives places for His light to shine through.
